Scientific Advisory Board

The Inaugural IHPC Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) Meeting – 14th, 15th February 2007

IHPC’s inaugural SAB meeting, held on the 14th and 15th of February, was met with much enthusiasm and anticipation as researchers of IHPC prepared to meet the panel of international experts for the first time.

The delegation, led by Professor Thom Dunning, Chairman of the Board, were presented with an overview of the A* STAR organisation - from an introduction to the Science and Engineering Research Council to the four research programmes of IHPC and their various computational capabilities. The SAB members were quickly enlightened to the research directions and projects undertaken by IHPC. They were genuinely interested to see how they could help to play a role in raising the research profile of IHPC and how they could work with IHPC to chart its future directions.

Besides the presentations and meetings, the SAB members also had the chance to interact and engage the researchers and learn about the various projects that reflect the vast array of computational capabilities of the institute. Through a poster presentation, the board members and the researchers were able to interact and exchange ideas and views. It was also an excellent opportunity for the board members to internalise the magnitude and extent of IHPC’s foray into its various scientific fronts. Feedback from the researchers on the meeting sessions was been both enriching and inspiring to say the least.

On a lighter note, the SAB members were treated to a night tour on the evening of the 2nd day. A bum boat ride was arranged for the SAB members (as some were visiting Singapore for the first time) to be introduced to Singapore’s colonial past whilst touring the areas of heritage along the Boat Quay and Clarke Quay area. Following that, the board members took a walk on the wild side as they visited the Night Safari, which they enjoyed tremendously. The evening marked a good ending to two days of intense, but fruitful meetings and discussions between IHPC and the SAB members.
